Let me start by saying where I was... I am an ex-triathlete and have previously been in great shape, but had gained roughly 40lbs over the years since becoming injured and stopping my training. I had also engaged some professionals that called themselves personal trainers, but would turn up and often be in a shared gym, with the trainers just going through the motions with me and with nothing tailored to not only my physique, but also with no regard to my previous injury. This led me to have zero return on not only my financial investment, but my emotional and personal commitment, too. I was hesitant to engage another trainer and had been running 5 days a week on my own, but had a particular date to be in better shape for (a friend's wedding) and so sought the help of a true professional as a "last-ditch effort".
Sam delivered on ALL counts. I turned up, he spent time with me to not only understand my goals but also my current shape, physical conditioning, flexibility (or lack thereof) and highlighted things about myself that I wasn't even aware of but made complete sense. He spent time educating me so I had the tools for the long-term, and yes, sure he pushed me further than I would have pushed myself in any session but each and every exercise or movement was tailored to my overall goal, but also tailored a session to how I felt that particular day. If something was sore, we'd work on relieving that soreness while also getting a workout in. There were days I didn't want to turn up as I was re-shaping my own personal habits and battling my own demons but every single time I left his gym I would feel 100% better, energized and had made progress toward my goal.
His nutritional training allowed me to eat the things I still wanted to eat, but also reel in other areas so I would be sticking to 80% health-driven foods, and 20% able to go out and enjoy restaurant meals or drinks with friends without concern. Overall, I lost 11.2% bodyfat in 11 weeks. This has changed not only how I feel every morning when waking up, but my quality of life, quality of sleep, quality of engagements and improved my confidence to no end.
Sam is a miracle worker and although personal training can be expensive, I realized it's easy to spend money in other areas of my life and I decided I am also worth spending money on. Now I have not only gotten much closer to where I wanted to be, but also have life lessons that will help me stay in shape for years to come. If you are looking for someone to help you actually achieve a goal, and want to feel like someone listens to you, your body and your needs then there is no better trainer than Sam.
I began working with Sam Weinberg at Chain Reaction Fitness in October 2021. After a few
years off from playing competitive sports and neglecting a regular workout routine, I was
overweight, lacking energy and was constantly injured and/or nursing a number of compounding
injuries including; a torn hamstring, sprained ankles, lower back pain, limited mobility and
persistent shoulder and neck pain.
We started with a 3-Month “Transformation Program” with in-person workouts 3 times per week
with the primary goal of trying to alleviate my nagging lower back pain, improve my overall
mobility and to increase my energy and stamina in my daily life. I was also provided with
workout materials for “at-home” workouts and educational fitness and nutrition information that was tailored to my goals. Sam would also routinely check-in outside gym hours to consult on the meals I was eating and provided constructive feedback on ways to adjust and improve the types and quantities of food I was eating to optimize meals to meet my goals. This constant reinforcement and accountability helped me form better daily dietary habits which has ultimately helped me to lose weight and gain energy throughout the day.
Given all my prior injuries, workouts were limited at first, however, every day I was challenged
with a variety of customized exercises tailored to work around my injuries and my limited
mobility. After the first few weeks I noticed dramatic improvements in my endurance and by the
end of the first 3 months saw significant improvements to my mobility and core strength and I
began to notice positive changes in my physique and overall weight too. I was very happy with
the results after the first 3 months but knew I had a long way to go, so I doubled down and
committed to another 3-month program and during this second round of training is where I saw
what I would consider exponential progress!
Since beginning to work with Sam, I’ve lost ~20 pounds and counting, my daily energy levels
and dietary choices have significantly improved, my overall mobility, endurance and strength is
the best it’s been in years and many of the lingering injuries I was dealing with are less
noticeable and becoming less of an issue with each passing week. I have decided to continue
training at Chain Reaction Fitness for the foreseeable future and am currently working with Sam
on new goals for the summer and will continue to improve upon my initial progress and achieve
a healthier continued lifestyle!

Sam has been working with my Midget AA/JV hockey team since August and I have seen tremendous improvements with their on ice performance. Sam's ability to create solid athletes gives me, as a coach, the tools needed to create good hockey players. Since try outs, I have seen massive improvements in multiple players skating ability. Now that the guys can get their butt low in a solid hockey position and hold it there, the power in their strides have got to the level they need to be for this league. With a lot of my guys being first year midgets they have started to excel in corner battles and puck protection, which is impressive with the size difference they face in games. We are around a 14-2-1 record this season and Sam has a huge part in their success.
Sams mindfulness and attention to detail is what I have noticed as one of his finest qualities.
